To tackle the omnipresent danger, we need information. Generally the usual method deployed to gather information is to send humans to crime scenes, during nuclear accidents, in wartime etc., putting precious human life at risk to gain intelligence. This could change forever if we start using “smart dust”. It may sound far-fetched, but scientists for the first time are creating tiny computerized sensors barely the size of specks of dust that can be scattered into the air and can send back information — in the future, even pictures — as they float back to Earth. This report focuses on this intersting concept. It explores the applications of this technology and current research efforts into this technology. It also discusses the security concerns of this technology and its outlook. |
