Today, 90% of SiC material production (out of a total of about 300,000 2`` eq. units) is dedicated to blue/white LEDs and is captive for Cree, Osram and related Sumitomo agreement, but changes are expected.Recent Osram’s announcements showed that the company is now involved in GaN-based LEDs production: it is not using SiC but Sapphire. Question is now open to know if Osram will migrate all the production using that technique and give up with SiC sub-strates.Yole Développement has edited an update of the report “SiC market analysis” describ-ing the current structure of the Silicon Car-bide industry, the applicative markets, the main business models (Cree, Infineon …) and its possible evolutions… The report contains unique features: • Applicative markets targeted by SiC with worldwide players’ description, main challenges for market penetra-tion, technical status, possible break-through and roadmaps. • These applications includeso Power electronicso RF & microwaveo Optoelectronicso MEMS and sensors • Detailed analysis of 2003-2009 SiC markets from a material point of view. Current production level, selling prices evolution and po-tential perspectives.
• Description of devices in production or in R&D with associated markets and volumes. • Identification and analysis of current and emerging applications, including power supplies, automotive (EV & HEV), white goods, defense, LEDs, LD and general lighting, RF base sta-tions, … • Analysis of the latest M&A • Detailed profiles of more than 80 companies and R&D labs on a world basis. • Cree's business model evaluation with estimated external and internal SiC revenues and use. |
