The German market for restaurants and cafés decreased by 2.3% on last year’s figures to reach a value of almost Euro24 billion (US$22.6 billion) in 2001. Over the review period the market decreased by 8.3%. However, the market leaders in this industry increased their overall share over the review period. This is mainly due to changes in lifestyle and consumer habits, as the concept of eating out is becoming more popular and in many cases, restaurants, cafes and bars have taken the role of a second kitchen. This report is part of Euromonitor’s highly successful Major Market Profiles series.
