Outbound Travel - The Baltics and Eastern Europe - October 2005
Market Report, October 2005, 445  €

Description

About this reportAbout the market:In 2004, all of the countries outlined in this report (except Russia and Croatia) became members of the EU, bringing the promise of more support for tourism in the form of funding and common immigration policies for the region.
Integration into the rest of Europe and liberalisation from the planned economies of the past have created enviable growth rates.
Lithuania’s GDP is currently growing at 7%, one of the highest in the EU.Adjusting to a more competitive, open environment has not been without its challenges and disposable income to spend on luxuries such as trips overseas is limited.
Taking a holiday or a business trip outside the country is still the preserve of the privileged (and wealthy) few.
In 2003, just over 7.8 million travellers from the Baltic States exited their countries, compared to over 128 million from Eastern Europe.
Those figures may seem high, but the majority of departures were day-trippers or outbound travellers passing through to another country.
Outbound travellers who stayed overnight (or longer) in another country are far fewer – 3.9 million from the Baltic States and 50.3 million from Eastern Europe (selected countries).About Mintel’s research:Published as part of Mintel’s “Travel and Tourism Analyst” (TTA), “Outbound Travel – The Baltics and Eastern Europe” combines the latest tourism data from the most authoritative sources with Mintel’s own unique and independent analysis.
