Internet is viewed as an opportunity for the governments functioning worldwide to provide services and information in a more cost-effective manner to the citizens. Responsiveness of federal and state government to the pervasive usage of Internet tools has opened new challenges and opportunities for the companies within Europe and world over. As a result, citizens are finding "e-services" as an alternative mode to the telephonic services in order to access the government services and information. As per estimation the total e-government spending across the EU states is approximately ¬5.2billion in 2001 (or 18% of the total public administration budget for ICT services), which is likely to grow by ¬6.6billion, an increase of 28% by 2005.
