The German market for cable and satellite TV services has grown by 2.2% since 2000 to reach a volume of 33.2 million households in 2001. In terms of penetration, Germany is one of the most advanced markets for cable and satellite TV in Europe, with an average reception of 36 cable and 47 satellite television channels. From the 36.1 million German households owning a TV, 8% receive their signal terrestrial, 56% via cable and 36% over satellite.
