Container products covered include aluminum cans, steel and bi-metal cans, plastic containers (bottles and pouches), glass bottles, paperboard containers (gabletop cartons, aseptic boxes and pouches) and other containers (ceramic and porcelain). Beverage markets include bottled water, milk and fermented milks, carbonated soft drinks (including flavored and soda waters), fruit beverages (including vegetable or blended fruit drinks), packaged tea, other ready-to-drink (RTD) nonalcoholic beverages (protein beverages, soy and other nondairy milks, functional drinks that provide energy or have other special attributes, iced coffee and noncarbonated soft drinks), beer and other malt beverages, distilled spirits, rice wine and wine. Other than frozen and shelf-stable concentrated fruit beverages, all nonliquid beverages are excluded from the study, including coffee and tea (other than RTD types), powdered and condensed milk, and powdered fruit drinks and sports beverages. Also excluded are infant formula, packaged milk shakes and liquid nutritional supplements. In the case of containers, all secondary packaging (e.g., corrugated boxes and paperboard beverage carriers) is excluded, as are all bulk containers not intended primarily for in-home use. Bottled water in containers of over 11.3 liters are excluded, as are alcoholic beverages packaged in containers of over five liters. |
