India, despite a population of one billion and a globally competitive software industry, still has a relatively small number of internet users.” South Korea leads the region in internet penetration, as the chart below shows.
Proactive government support of internet diffusion and an advanced communications and technology infrastructure have resulted in an internet penetration rate of 51.1%.
By contrast, the region’s population giants like China, Indonesia and India suffer from relatively low internet penetration rates.
