2005 Middle Eastern - Mobile Communications and Mobile Data Markets
Market Report, June 2005, 292  €

Description

Executive SummaryIran has a huge unmet demand for mobiles, evident by the run out of new blocks of SIM cards within days of issue and the exorbitant prices paid for mobile SIM cards on the black market, but challenges lie ahead due to the change in power to a conservative-dominated government.
Saudi Arabia has also made significant progress in the mobile market with a second GSM licence awarded with plans to award a third licence in late-2006.
Third generation (3G) mobile services have taken off in a number of countries and could take place in two more in the very near future.
The increasingly crowded regional mobile market has not only diversified the availability and increased the sophistication of services offered, but has also led to two major regional players looking afar for growth opportunities, namely the African continent.
